About the Gower Society.

PRESIDENT CHAIRMAN SECRETARY

Harold Grenfell Malcolm Ridge Ruth Ridge

We are a group of over 1500 ordinary people who consider that the Lordship of Gower, and especially the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a very special place. While accepting that change must take place we think changes need to be controlled to maintain the character of the area.

We arrange a programme of more that 100 events a year. including walks, talks. coach trips and folk dancing.

We walk and clear footpaths. reporting any obstructions to the County Council Footpath Officer.

We make a careful study of all proposals for building or other development, road construction and changes in land use. If we think these could be harmful to the environment, we make our views known to the Local Authority or the Welsh Office.

We publish an annual journal which includes articles on alI aspects of Gower, past and present The quality is outstanding among journals of its type and constitutes a highly valued record of research on Gower.

We also publish booklets on castles, churches. plants. caves and walks in the area, as well as poems and stories and a very successful Gower Guide.

We support other societies active in protecting beauty and history of Gower.
