Atlantic Array Offshore Wind Farm Project

The National Trust Interim Statement

While the National Trust fully supports UK renewable energy initiatives, it has serious reservations about current plans for developing offshore wind energy so close to shore in the Bristol Channel, with the potential for serious impacts on sensitive coastal landscapes and seascapes1. The National Trust fully supports a major increase in the UK’s renewable energy generation, including harnessing offshore energy from wind, wave power and appropriate tidal technologies. We believe that large-scale infrastructuaral renewable energy initiatives should be located in areas – onshore or offshore – that have been appraised as optimal in the context of all national and regional renewable energy development options, with regard to the full ran ge of environmental considerations, and be of an appropriate scale to that location. Swansea Beach racing

There is a proposal for motorcycle racing on the town end of Swansea Beach. They will need to create artificial dunes by digging up the beach. They say they will use windblown sand and put it back afterwards. You will have to pay to get onto the prom in that area.

Sand Dredging

There are new proposals for dredging sand from the Bristol Channel. Perhaps more about this later.

Gower AONB Partnership Group

This Group replaced the old Gower Forum in April 2010; it has representatives of a wide range of interests and acts as a steering group for the AONB. Gordon Howe has sat on this Committee for about 20 years – he is a committee member and represents the Gower Society. At a recent meeting, a number of interesting items were presented - we think that a brief report of these would be of interest to our Members.

Stop Wasting Our Landscape (SWOL).
The Environment Agency (EA) is very concerned about the loss of many of our geological features within the Gower landscape due to thoughtless tipping and disposal of materials. Read all the rest

Some shops still have copies.

Gower 62 was launched in November. Most have been distributed or sold but there are a few left. Copies are available from local bookshops or can be ordered directly from the Society by email.








NEWSLETTERS
The Gower Society Newsletter is published several times each year. It contains news you probably know, and news you probably didn't know before you read it. The Newsletters are large .pdf files and can be slow downloading.
