The Gower Society Talks Programme
In the winter the Gower Society presents talks on subjects related to the conservation, preservation and history of the Lordship. The talks are held in the Sketty Parish Centre . In the summer we sometimes arrange events.

15th October. OYSTERMOUTH CASTLE - PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
Illustrated Talk by Roger Parmiter, Chairman of the Friends of Oystermouth Castle. Roger will include details of the Castle's structure, history and its connections with the rest of Gower. His presentation will also have aerial photographs and representations of the recent exciting archaeological finds in the Castle, including the fresco painting in the chapel block

PUBLICATIONS EVENING
Bernard
Morris introduces the contents of the 62nd volume of the Society’s
annual journal Gower, while Harold Grenfell,
will show some of his slides. Gower 62
will be available for purchase, or for members to collect their complimentary
copy.

Sat.10th December. CHAIRMAN/SECRETARY’S EVENING - HOW DO WE COMPARE?
Malcolm and Ruth Ridge during the past year, have visited many protected areas in the UK and abroad. How does Gower compare in terms of support, protection and work on the ground? A short illustrated talk will be followed by an opportunity to share your experiences of other parts of the UK and the world. The evening will continue with seasonal refreshments and a chance to chat

A talk by Mary Lewis, illustrated by Alan Bailey.
Our very own wild flowers have fascinating stories to tell involving their use for food, clothing, medicine -- and witchcraft!

Our President Edwina Hart AM OStJ MBE will introduce Rosemary Butler AM, the new Presiding Officer of the National Assembly, who will give a talk entitled 'The woman who had lunch with the Queen.

Sat. 17th March. INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE AND THE HAFOD COPPER WORKS PROJECT.
Professor Huw Bowen, Professor of Modern History at Swansea University and the Project Leader, will give the illustrated talk. It will include the history of Swansea's copper industry and the developments that transformed the Lower Swansea Valley into a post-industrial wasteland. It will explain the earlier economic and social projects of the 1960s and 1970s that paid little attention to the industrial remains of world significance, It will show why now, there is an urgent need to undertake, an imaginative and sustainable programme of heritage-led regeneration, centred on the site of the former Hafod copper works
