Gower picture of the day

It is a truly special place. You will enjoy getting to know it – its diverse land, its rich history and its people. Like us, you will come to love Gower, to appreciate all it has to offer, and to care for its future.

The Lordship of Gower has existed for a thousand years, and for centuries before that it was the welsh ‘commote’ of Gŵyr. It includes wild mountains to the north, Wales’ second city, Swansea, at its centre and, to the west, the superb Gower Peninsula which encompasses the UK’s first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Welcome to Gower. Welcome to the Gower Society Croeso I Gŵyr Croeso I Gyfeillion Gŵyr

On this site you will find a programme of talks, a programme of walks of various lengths and difficulty, a page of books published by the Gower Society, which includes details of the latest "Gower" Journal and a link to the Gower Journal index. There are pages for young people too.

For the Millennium the Gower Society promoted the Gower Way, a 35 mile walking route on public footpaths from Rhossili to Penlle'r Castell.

The Gower Society searches the Weekly List of Registered Planning Applications for plans we think might be detrimental to the AONB. Our planning page explains what we do and offers guidance if you want to object to a plan, on Gower or anywhere in Swansea. The Gower Society also has concerns about Swansea, which has always been the capital of the Lordship of Gower. When we consider the Lists we include the plans for parts of Swansea.

The Society gives grants to help with conservation projects.
